RAISING THE STANDARD OF MUSICAL EXCELLENCE

French Horn Lessons

French horn picture

Thank you for your interest in french horn lessons at the Kansas City School of Music! The French horn has a reputation for being a challenging instrument, but at the KCSM, students develop the confidence to pursue their musical goals, no matter their age or skill level. With an early focus on building a strong foundation through fundamentals tailored specifically for the horn, students are empowered to move beyond the initial challenge of the instrument and explore their musical intuition.

Learning plans are developed based on the needs and goals of the individual, including custom-designed exercises. Standard resources, such as those from Kopprasch, Pottag, and Cichowicz, will also be used to support technical and musical development. School faculty is trained in a wide variety of musical styles and equipped to teach for all musical settings, including for orchestral, band, chamber and solo settings. We explore all genres, ranging from classical to electronic literature. Our students don’t just play the horn; they excel.

Performance Opportunities

Performing is a key part of learning an instrument. At Kansas City School of Music, we offer ample opportunities for our students to perform. In addition to activities within the Kansas City School of Music, students are encouraged to pursue other opportunities to perform, such as District and State Band/Orchestra, District and State Solo & Ensemble Festival, and the Youth Symphony of Kansas City.

Exceptional Facilities

The quality of facility won’t make or break a student’s ability to learn an instrument, but it can certainly make it more enjoyable. At Kansas City School of Music, our Overland Park campus is conveniently located. The facility has soundproof walls and temperature control, as well as pianos for accompaniment purposes. Our state-of-the-art facilities are just a small part of our standards of excellence.

Parental Involvement

As a parent, you’re probably looking for any way you can to get involved. Our instructors here at Kansas City School of Music are happy to offer you advice and guidance for getting involved with your child’s music education. We require parents to sit in on lessons if their student is in preschool or elementary school because we believe parental involvement is crucial during this stage of musicianship. Visit our parental involvement page to learn more about these expectations.
